My good friend and sports psychologist Dr. Rob Gilbert, (creator of the Success Hotline) a professor at Montclair State University, always says you have everything inside of you that you need to be successful.
Then, what gets in the way? Distractions? Lack of confidence? The “I don’t feel like it” syndrome? The ability to keep going when we fall short? I’ve heard him talk about this concept a lot and I do believe it.
As I was walking around my school building the other day, I saw this bag with this plant growing out of it. The bag has been sitting in the corner for over a year as I did not do much planting last spring at the school.
So, it has been left untouched since March, but look what came out of it! With no water and hardly any sunlight, look what was able to grow and thrive. Dr. Gilbert is right! We do have all the things that we need inside of us to be successful and we need to continue to bring that out not only in ourselves but also in those we serve. Whether they are students, employees, or those around us, continue to help them see the good they have inside them. Some people just don’t believe, see it, or are afraid of it…that is being successful, moving out of their comfort zone, etc. You have it, and so do they. Don’t be hesitant about bringing out your best self and to help others see the success, the tools they have inside themselves.
I was really astounded when I saw this bag, and the blog jumped right out at me. Many of you have asked where I get my ideas for the blogs. The stories, the examples are all around us, you just have to look for them.
Continue to believe in yourself while enriching the confidence in others.
