#ELBlog #159: I’ve Got My Eye On You Mike Wazowski
After a fun day with my kids on a ski weekend getaway, we ate dinner, and were just relaxing at the place that we rented. It was one of those moments where we didn’t have to do anything, go anywhere, and had no deadlines. We had free time, it was unplanned and it was great! We had some music on and we were cleaning up from dinner, when we stumbled upon the famous Disney movie, Monsters Inc. All of us got excited as it is a classic Disney movie, and a family favorite. I smiled immensely seeing the characters from many years ago that I fell in love with. My kids were very young when the movie first came out. We all chuckled when we saw the grumpy curmudgeon clerical Roz.
If you haven’t seen it, Roz is the office manager of Monsters Inc. and greeted everyone with a mean snarl. She’s portrayed as just being an overall miserable monster. Everyone in the movie dreaded dealing with Roz and avoided her like she was a bad habit. The family laughed out loud as she dealt firmly with Mike Wazowski.
We enjoyed the weekend, we enjoyed the movie, and as always we enjoyed the time together. I left again thinking about the movie the next day. It reminded me of one of Dr. Gilbert‘s greatest lessons from the Success Hotline (973-743-4690). Dr. Rob Gilbert, the creator of the success line, always talks about energy and people’s energy levels.
What are people’s energy levels after they are done interacting with you? Does your energy and enthusiasm raise other spirits or like in the movie bring them down? Do people dread talking to you because your energy is low? Pessimistic? Negative energy? We have an opportunity every interaction with people to raise their spirits. With a smile, a compliment, we’re just being positive and energetic you can raise the spirits of others. Now more than ever, even through the mask, people need your positive energy. Sometimes you have to fake it until you feel it. Maybe you are down and not at your best but it doesn’t mean that your interactions with others have to be that way. Put a smile on, take a deep breath and help others through this journey by being positive in your interactions with others.
Keep rolling! Like the overall concept of the movie, it is always better to make them laugh and smile than scream or frown. Best to you and your journey. #survivethrive @andrewmarotta21
