#ELBlog #176: Plant Your Roots
I’m always amazed by mother nature. Take a look at the following picture. The flower pot has newly planted geraniums, nice soil, miracle grow, and so much more. The pansy growing from the crack in the wall has nothing, and look at how it’s thriving. It’s a beautiful color, and facing the sun, growing well. The seed must have fallen into the crack a year earlier.
The simple act of mother nature reminds me that we too can do it. We can survive, we can make do, and we can adapt. While the geranium has everything it needs in that pot, the pansy is doing well on its own.
I like the lesson of the pansy. Do the best you can with what you have, and keep on growing. Life sometimes lets us land in a pot full of soil and miracle grow. Other times there’s just a crack in the wall and what can we do?
How can we survive when we feel like there’s no way? I know there are times in my life when I have felt helpless and the keep rolling mindset helps. Two things that also help I’ve learned from my friend Dr. Rob Gilbert. They are simple mind-strengthening activities that help me get through the tough times:
1. Press your thumb to your pointer finger and say the word “I.” Then press your thumb to your middle finger together and say “can.” Then your thumb and ring finger, and say “do.” Finally, press your thumb and pinky together and say “this”. “I can do this.” That simple meditation and repetition does help you believe that you can do anything regardless of the circumstances
2. A mindset. It rhymes and rolls off the tongue. It’s not what you’re going through, it’s where you’re going to. This has helped me get through many hard times when things are rough. It’s not what you’re going through, but it’s where you’re going to.
Keep the simple techniques in mind when you are stuck in the crack in a wall and hopefully, you can make it through, just like the beautiful pink flower. If I can help you in any way don’t hesitate to reach out @andrewmarotta21 on Twitter. Keep rolling!
