#ELBlog #188: Looking Forward
I love my dog, Ruby. She’s beautiful, loving, loyal, and just so darn cute. I enjoy taking her running with me and most times she runs right alongside me if she’s not pulling me forward. But sometimes, she has started looking behind her, especially if we’re doing a 5K together. We’ll be running and she’ll start looking behind her and then start lagging behind so much that I have to pull her forward. I prompt her, yell at her, whistle, tug on the leash etc. to try to get her to come forward.
This is very frustrating for me because I have all my energy moving forward. I’m running, breathing, and have my eyes moving forward, yet she is pulling me backward. In life, I’m a believer of the motto, keep moving forward. While I love memories and great times, I’m always looking ahead. When I had a chance to spend some time with the great Todd Whitaker, I asked him about his many successful books. He turned to me and just said “I look through the front windshield. I don’t even go back and read the last book, I move on to the next one.”
Look at this beautiful view I have of the trail I was running along. It makes you want to go forward. Yet, Ruby kept pulling me back. I urge you to continue to move forward in your life wherever your journey is taking you. The bumps, the turns, the falls will all be part of it and you certainly can learn from it, but don’t live in the past and keep moving forward.
