#ELBlog # 190: Happy New Year! Take More Pictures
Happy New Year friends. Wishing you a wonderful 2022 and beyond. I share some great advice from my friend and college bball Coach, John Thompson.
I was able to connect recently with the great Coach John Thompson from Wesleyan College in North Carolina. John is my former coach at Guilford College back in the 90s, and he’s been the men’s head basketball coach for a long time now at North Carolina Wesleyan. Love Coach T!
We spoke about a number of things and our conversation ended with him advising me to …take more pictures. I had been complementing all of the great photos he shares on his social media accounts. He said “Andrew, continue to take more photos.” He shared a story about a friend who was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame at North Carolina Wesleyan. The inductee said in his speech: “When it’s all said and done you are left with two things, memories and relationships. Memories and relationships.”
This got me thinking about the great relationships I have been able to build over the last number of years as a school leader, author, keynoter, and presenter. I have met so many people from around the country that I am able to share and collaborate with now and I am enjoying the journey.
As a leader and someone looking to better yourself, I ask you the question: what are some things that you are doing to build those relationships and secure those memories? What are some of the techniques and strategies that you use to connect and help others?
Coach Thompson was a big influence on my life over 20 years ago when I was a college basketball player. We still keep in touch now continuing that great relationship. I appreciate him and all that he represents.
My hope is that I can help with the great book project he will have coming out one day entitled Memories and Relationships. I’m sure it will be filled with lots of amazing memories. Kicking off 2022, I take Coach T’s advice: Take more pictures!
Keep rolling friends and if I can help you in any way don’t hesitate to reach out.
