A few months ago our school district’s phone system had an upgrade. Soon afterward, I started to hear a beep and a message would pop up saying: That’s a bit loud! Consider lowering your voice. It kept popping up again and again until I physically had to turn it off.
It did get me thinking though about my tone and volume when talking to people. While I might not think I’m talking out loud, maybe other people, including the phone measuring system do. Am I being too aggressive sometimes? Am I raising my voice sometimes?
That notification is for a reminder for folks to lower their voices while you’re talking with others. While you might not think you’re being aggressive or overly loud, maybe you are.
As my wife reminds me often, not everyone is like you. Just because I’m loud doesn’t mean everyone welcomes that type of behavior or that style. It is these kinds of reminders that help redirect us and make us have some self-reflection and thought in our words and actions.
Be gentle and kind in your interactions with others especially as we have come out of the pandemic. Let’s remember some kindness and civility with one another. Keep rolling friends. If I can help you in anyway don’t hesitate to reach out @andrewmarotta21 on Twitter.
