#ELBlog #229: Hell Of A View
In June of 2022, my wife and I enjoyed seeing Eric Church in concert at the famed MSG: Madison Square Garden in NYC. Man, was it a great show! For weeks later, I still find myself reflecting back, singing the songs, and thinking about that awesome night. The show was just incredible!
He played one of his newer hits titled: “Hell of a View.” I keep coming back to this song and experience. As he sang and the band played, I looked over at my wife enjoying the show, and I began to cry. I became overwhelmed with emotion, with happiness.
It really was one “Hell of a View.” The show, my wife, and all that is in front of me in my life. My kids, my wonderful school district in Port Jervis, NY, my surviving and thriving work of speaking, writing, and inspiring others, and so much more. It’s a Hell of a View.
I am working really hard at being where my feet are and enjoying the journey. Taking the good with the bad, the wins and defeats. When you focus on the positive and take on the curveballs as opportunities and learning points, it is a hell of a view and you are able to better enjoy the journey.
My family recently told me: “Enough!” as I complained about things being moved and/or not replaced in the house, somebody breaking something, someone not completing an activity they were supposed to, leaving a door open and so on. I would say, “Today on Booby-Trapped…’ joking that I was intentionally being set up.
They were all frustrated by my actions and told me “Enough!” I agree, enough of that reaction on my part. It is a Hell of a View and I want to continue to look through the lens of gratitude, positivity, and hope. I am blessed and fortunate with my family, work as a school leader, and the drive to help other leaders and schools on their journey to be the best they can be.
I challenge you to look closely at your view, where-ever it is, and wherever you are on your journey. Your view is what you make of it. Green grass grows where it is watered and cared for. Thanks Eric Church for reminding me: It’s a Hell of a View!
