She Flies With Her Own Wings
I had a beautiful visit to Oregon back in August 2022. It was just a magical time. I was able to work with different educators from different school districts. We were surviving and thriving: leadership, learning, and growing together to be our best selves.
I learned a lot about the state of Oregon and its beauty. I love their state motto which is: Alis Volat Propriis or She Flies With Her Own Wings. I found it literally uplifting as well as the people and natural beauty of the state.
I had a profound experience atop Mount Howard on Lake Walla Walla in Eastern Oregon. I was up there with some fellow educators and friends on top of the mountain when I got to truly experience the feelings of “She Flies With Her Own Wings. As luck would have it, there was a paraglider getting ready to lift off the mountain. She shared a little bit about what was about to happen and in seconds she opened her “wings” and
flew off… She flew with her own wings.
My mouth dropped open and I was speechless. Literally speechless. She was gliding through the air like a beautiful eagle. She turned left and turned right and was just soaring above the beautiful mountains. It was absolutely perfect.
I felt great inspiration from that experience and urge you, wherever you are in your life and on your journey to fly with your own wings. Find that inspiration in others, and when your time comes, lift off your mountain. You have everything inside you to be successful.
When you struggle for the power of the lift-off, look for those who can help you. Inspiration is around us in many forms, and it’s a strong leadership trait, not a weakness to ask for help from others.
I wish you the best on your journey and if I can help you in any way don’t hesitate to reach out at @andrewmarotta21 on Twitter. Keep rolling friends and keep flying with your own wings.
