I was blessed to be able to present at the Vermont Principals Association this past summer. It was held in Killington, Vermont which is an absolutely beautiful area, and it was a tremendous event. I was fortunate to meet Jeff Thomas from White River Valley School District in the beautiful state of Vermont. Jeff is a veteran leader and master storyteller. In the session I had with him, I asked if there were any techniques or strategies that people use to help build outrageous relationships. Jeff shared that he does eight before eight. He looks to build eight connections with staff and students before 8 o’clock AM. Wow. That’s impressive. Talk about being intentional.
I was really impressed with him, and asked him to share more. He said when you’re intentional and you schedule it and you work at it, you can do it. I see that your morning just floats away without looking to make these connections and relationships, it won’t happen. Eight before eight. Thanks so much Jeff Thomas.
He shared later in the conference with me that he’s added four after four pm to his game. Looking to make four more connections after 4 o’clock. Jeff, you certainly are thriving in the work you’re doing as a principal. I appreciate you and thank you for sharing. I wish you the best on your journey.
