Over the years of refereeing, I’ve heard some of the top referees talk about the freedom, and clarity between the lines on the court. When they stepped on the court, the single focus they had was being engaged with the plays, and getting the plays correct. I felt it myself, as I progressed in my career. That feeling of being on the court started out as nervousness, but as I grew from experience, it became a comfort and a passion to get plays right.
I recently watched the Conor McGregor documentary on Netflix, and he talked about the same while being in the octagon. Conor McGregor is a famous Irish mixed martial arts, MMA fighter, who became a worldwide celebrity. He talked about being in the octagon. That is where his passion lies, and where he felt most comfortable. Again that single focus, where you can accomplish the task that you are extremely passionate about.

So I ask you as you read this blog where are you most comfortable? Where is your octagon? Where is your basketball court that you feel most comfortable and most passionate about? I challenge you to get there more and excel at your craft. Maybe it is leading a band orchestra? Maybe it’s in your art studio? Maybe it is training for that marathon, or cooking that beautiful meal for your family. Wherever that passion lies. and wherever that comfort is between the lines, try to get there.
I heard a quote recently that really resonated with me: “people are tired not because they are doing too much, but rather because they are not doing the things they are most passionate about.”
I wish you the best on your journeys and continue to chase your passions.
