It is absolutely pouring this morning as I write this blog. It rained so hard, I could barely see through the windshield of my car as I drove to work. The windshield wipers however kept moving quickly back-and-forth wiping it away and clearing my path. They were slinging the water off the glass!
What if I didn’t have those windshield wipers going? What if they weren’t at the speed they needed to be for me to see? It certainly would hamper me and I would have had a difficult time moving forward.
The same is true in our lives. What are the things that are hampering you? What are the things that are blocking your view or blurring your path? Have a windshield wiper mentality and keep moving forward.
Someone makes a negative comment about your work, windshield wiper it and keep moving forward.
Make a mistake and you’re upset about it? Windshield wiper it and keep moving forward.
Didn’t get that promotion or position you were looking for? Windshield wiper it and keep moving forward.
Don’t get me wrong, always take feedback both positive and negative. Sometimes those taking shots at us might have valid points so I’m not saying ignore feedback, but absorb it. Reflect on it. Digest it. Is it honest, authentic feedback pointing out areas you can improve and grow? Or is it a shot from the cheap seats?
Then put the windshield wiper on and keep moving.
Life’s a journey and you have to keep moving forward. Keep your windshield wipers handy.
