My wife and I love to travel and have new experiences together in a variety of different places.
For my wife’s 49th birthday, we went and stayed in a tiny house. We’ve been watching different construction and homeownership tv programs about them and have always been intrigued. We finally did it! We booked a few nights stay in one.
Well…

While things look glamorous on television, it was quite difficult to actually “live” in!
A few life lessons learned from staying in the tiny house:
- Appreciate the people and the things you have in your life. Sometimes we take those for granted. The appreciation of space was felt strongly.
- Move quietly. A lot of Marotta is real and sometimes I move loudly and I’m just noisy in general. In that small space I had to work hard to be quiet.
- Small footprint, leave a small footprint.
- Sleep is essential: My wife and I felt very constricted with the lack of airspace, airflow, amplified noises, etc. The sleeping quarters were quite challenging, and we certainly felt it!

- Outdoor space: It is so important to have outdoor spaces in our lives after being in the tiny house, stepping out on the porch and breathing the fresh air, and the vast wilderness in front of us was very satisfying.
If you haven’t done it, I recommend you try it. Getting back to reality and my normal space felt great. It was a cool new experience, but overall it wasn’t for me.
Keep surviving and thriving friends!
