As a New Yorker, you are obligated to be a fan of the great philosopher and creator William F. Joel. Commonly known around the world as Billy Joel. He just put out a new single this year called Turn the Lights Back On.
The song warms my heart and instantly makes you wanna sing along.
It also made me reflect on my life and the areas in my life where I need to put the lights back on. When you’ve been doing things for a long time, maybe you lose your edge a bit. Maybe the lights go out. Where have your lights gone out? Is it in your role as an educator? Is it in your relationships? In your personal health etc.?

I love the song. It made me think and reflect on wanting to do better. Maybe the lights are on in some areas but maybe not burning bright. How can I increase the light? If the lights are out how can I turn them back on?
Here’s a couple of thoughts:
- Take inventory of where the lights are out, and where they are not not burning bright.
- List the steps that you can do to make the changes you’d like to.
- Create a schedule.
- Start.
- Ask an honest friend/accountability partner to help you look at the lights.
If you haven’t heard the song, I highly recommend it. I think it represents the essence of surviving and thriving.
