It’s just a point. This is what Roger Federer shared during his commencement speech to Dartmouth University’s graduating class of 2024. He shared that he has played over 1500 matches, and he won 80% of them. This has made him one of the best tennis players ever. However, he further shared that he only won 54% of the points.
Think about that: he won 80% of his matches but only 54% of the points. This means he lost 46% of every point played. It’s good advice. It’s just a point. If you win it, fantastic, move on to the next one. If you lose it, that’s okay too, so move on to the next one. Compounding the wins is what moves you forward—winning the point and moving on. If you lose the point, focus on winning the next one. What great advice! Every time we teach a class or have an interaction, it’s a point. Every time we connect with somebody, it’s a point. As Roger says in his speech, it’s just a point. Continue to win the points. Do the things that matter, build relationships and develop trust in people.
