It’s always an honor to sign my books when I’m at an event. I love to speak with people who attended the workshops and keynote addresses. Personally signing their books for them is truly an honor.
I was recently at an event where I met a gentleman who paused me before I signed. He asked if I could sign it with the message “Brian, your Dad loves you.” I paused and smiled. I thought that was absolutely beautiful.
He was giving the book to his son as a gift, and that’s what he wanted it to say.
We chatted for a moment about his son, their relationship, and the many things that they cherished together.
I happily signed it as he asked. As I was driving to the airport, I reflected on that moment together. Wow.
As parents, there are so many ways to show love to our children. Support, presence at events, opportunities, dinners, the simple act of saying I love you with a hug and a kiss, and seeing it in writing. What would Brian say when he opened the book? How would his dad’s words make him feel? Obviously, we must match our actions with our words, but there’s no doubt that this gentleman does that for his son.
Let’s continue to take care of ourselves on our journey and dive into our families. We pour so much into our jobs at school, our businesses, and our organizations. Let’s make sure we love ourselves in our families.
