After I turned 50, I started noticing my teeth more. They were starting to move and look crooked. They were not as straight as they once were after many years and struggles with braces. (God bless my orthodontist) I spoke with my dentist, and he recommended Invisalign.
I was very hesitant about it, as I didn’t want to be walking around and talking with plastic retainers. However, once he showed me what the end result would look like, I said, Oh yeah! For sure, let’s do it!
I’m in the middle of the Invisalign process right now as I write this. I was given the first eight retainers. I wear each for two weeks, for a total of 16 weeks.
Each one has a slight change, a tighter mold, pushing my teeth in the right direction.
After a couple of days, I felt more comfortable wearing them and have already noticed a change in my teeth.

This got me thinking about mentorship, coaching, change, and growth in our personal and professional lives. What, who, and how are the retainers in our lives that are looking to mold us? How are they looking to help us grow and push us towards the person that we want to be? Each retainer puts a little bit more pressure on my teeth, and has a little bit of a different shape to help me get to the direction that I want to go. It’s the same in our lives. What are the books that you are reading, the podcasts that you listen to, and the mentors that you invest in your coaching? We can’t have these people and things keep us where we are, but rather help push us towards where we have to go.
I have invested in some great mentors and coaches over the years. There is tremendous value there. They can help us see where we are trying to get to, or who we want to be. They help to push us there, just like Invisalign is helping to push my teeth in the right direction.
Keep investing in yourselves, friends, and keep pushing yourself to where it is that you want to be.
If I can help get you there, please reach out– for you, your team, or your organization!
Keep surviving and thriving!
